Mike hails from Oldham, the former centre of the textile industry in the North West of England. Not being interested in a career in textiles, he found escape from the crushing sameness of 70’s through the underwater films of Jacques Cousteau and Hans Hass as well as the stories of Robert Louis Stevenson.
These influences inspired him to become a ‘Pirate of the Caribbean’, unfortunately upon arrival in the land of sunshine he was forced to become a scuba diving instructor for over ten years due to the three hundred year decline in the buccaneer industry. To this end, he earned a reputation for being able to hold his breath longer than anyone else, this fuelled by his notoriously low tolerance to pirate beverages.
On his return to these shores he was gainfully employed as a training consultant with the NHS. Mike holds a wide range of Learning and Development qualifications, highlights being a BA (Hons) in Training and Education, a Diploma in Professional Learning & Development and a Certificate of Education (FE) as well as the complement of Assessor and Verifier Awards.
